Mahela Jayawardene disappointed with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Isuru-Udana-c64628 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, the Sri Lankan captain, is extremely disappointed with some of the young players like Chamara Kapugedera and Isuru Udana, who have so far failed to cement their places in the national team, despite being given
a number of opportunities to prove their worth.
Kapugedera, the 25-year-old cricketer from Kandy, made his way to international cricket in 2006 and looked to be a promising talent. However, the right-hander has so far failed to live up to the expectations, averaging merely 22.04
runs per innings after 92 One Day Internationals (ODIs), which is surely not acceptable at the global arena.
Some of the former cricketers, including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Jayasuriya-c2567, have recently slammed the Sri Lankan selectors for persisting with the young batsman despite the players coming through the ranks of domestic cricket.
On the other side of the coin, Udana, the left-arm fast bowler, is also considered to be one of the most talented players in the Island, but has not looked impressive in international cricket till date. The cricketer from Balangoda
made his ODI debut in the recently concluded series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 but miserably struggled to make an impression against a strong batting line-up.
The seasoned middle-order batsman is extremely disappointed with the youngsters’ lack of progress and thinks that they are unable to deliver the goods at the ultimate level of the game because of the added pressure.
Jayawardene warned that the team management has to start looking at other options if these two keep failing.
"It is frustrating," Jayawardene said. "If you see the way he bats at nets, and the way Isuru Udana bowls at nets, it's totally different, and we give them an opportunity. I don't know whether it's the occasion, whether they can't
handle pressure, [but] it does not come good for them. If they cannot handle the pressure then we have to move on and give that opportunity to someone else."
The Sri Lankan captain added, "Obviously if they are not performing and others come and grab hold of their chances then they will get more opportunity than guys like Chamara."
