Mahela Jayawardene feels that Kochi can do better on good pitches
Kochi Tuskers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 skipper, Mahela Jayawardene, has said that his team can perform well against any opposition if they are playing on good tracks. The Sri Lankan middle order batsman is not happy with the pitches on which Kochi has recently been playing
on.
The Tuskers will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore tomorrow (May 8, 2011) in a crucial match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Royal Challengers are considered as one of the better teams of the competition and Jayawardene feels that his team is up
for the challenge.
The right hander said that he is not making any kind of an excuse but Kochi had to play on slow tracks in their recent games where scoring runs was not easy.
Mahela said that his team has proved its worth against strong opponents like the Daredevils and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders, showing that they are a strong team on good tracks.
Jayawardene said, "I am not making an excuse but in our last few games we have played on some mediocre wickets and then you have to scrap for runs. It is a challenge and we need to adapt to that. Even if we score 90 or a 120 we need to fight back. On good
tracks we have done well against strong teams be it http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 or Kolkata,"
The Sri Lankan said that his team took some time to settle down in their opening season because majority of the players are youngsters.
He admitted that the Royal Challengers are a strong team, having some extra-ordinary players like Chris Gayle, Tillakaratne Dilshan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887, but promised his fans that the Tuskers will give them a tough fight.
"Ours is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Young-c41367 team and it took some time to settle down. We have some very good players. Both RCB and Kochi Tuskers have had different fortunes. RCB is a strong side but we hope to do well," said Mahela.
Kochi is currently at number six in the points table with 10 points after as many games and they need to win at least three of their remaining four matches to stay in the competition.
