Mahela Jayawardene hopeful of breaking losing streak against Pakistan at RPS Colombo – Cricket News Update
The Sri Lankan skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, is confident his side would break the four-match losing streak against Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, when they play the Men in Green in the third One day International of the ongoing five-match
series at the same venue on Wednesday, June 13.
Speaking to media reporters at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, the home skipper agreed that they have not played well against Pakistan at Premadasa Stadium lately. He however takes heart from his side’s 76-run crushing of Pakistan in the previous
match, at Pallekele on Saturday.
"We haven't played that well against Pakistan [at Premadasa Stadium]. It's up to us to challenge ourselves," said Jayawardene on the eve of the third one-dayer against Misbah and men.
"…the guys showed lot of character in the second game when we bounced back. We need to make sure that we play to our strength…we will be challenged in certain situations and we need to handle those situations well. If we do that successfully,
the results will be in our favour."
After losing the rain ruined series opener at Pallekele quite comprehensively with a six-wicket margin, the Sri Lankan team bounced back strongly in the second one-dayer with a mammoth 76-run win – courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 (119)
and Thisara Perera (6 for 44).
Despite outclassing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604 led pace arsenal.
"Pakistan are a quality team. The bowling unit, with the variations they have, has the fire power to play in any conditions, that that is why they are successful in these conditions."
The Islanders have lost their last four One Day Internationals against Pakistan, while one ended in no result. Their last win against Pakistan at RPS Colombo had come on July 21, 2004. Overall, the two outfits clashed 13 times at
the R Premadasa Stadium, with the hosts losing six games and winning five, while two games did not bear result.
The next two games of the series will be played at the same R Premadasa venue on June 16 and 18.
