Mahela Jayawardene keen to win home games – Cricket News Update

Delhi Daredevils skipper Mahela Jayawardene is keen to win the upcoming home games, after having lost all of their matches (home and away) played so far in the ongoing season six of Indian Premier League.

The Daredevils succumbed to their fifth straight defeat in the lucrative Twenty20 league when they lost a super over thriller to Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, the Delhi skipper has not given up hopes and believes his side still has a chance to reach
the tournament play-offs.

While speaking to media reporters after his side’s super over defeat to Bangalore, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium Bangalore, Jayawardene said that the way forward for Delhi from this point is to focus on all their home fixtures. Teams like Chennai Super Kings,
Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore have all performed really well on their home grounds and the former Sri Lankan skipper reckons his side should now try to emulate the performances of those teams, if they are to qualify for the final-fours
of the T20 extravaganza.

"We will give ourselves a chance to get into the 'Final Four' if we can win the home games. That is something we really have to focus on," said Mahela Jayawardene on Tuesday night here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.

While chasing a middling target of 153, RCB needed 12 runs of the final over to win the match, and Daredevils had a very good chance to get off the mark in the points table. But Ravi Rampaul looted Irfan Pathan for a lofted six on the first ball of the final
over to balance the equation and help his side level the score at the end of the allotted quota of 20 overs.

In the super over, Chris Gayle and AB De Villiers of RCB scored 15 runs setting a target of 16 runs for the tourists. But they could manage only 11 runs while losing two wickets as well, to hand the home side a comfortable super over victory.

Jayawardene lamented Virender Sehwag’s absence due to injury after his side failed to chase down 16-run target in the one over eliminator.

"If I had that option I would have fancied sending Sehwag, but that option wasn't there for me," said the Sri Lanka, insisting his side needs to develop a positive frame of mind.

The Daredevils will next play Chennai Super Kings at home on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
