Mahela Jayawardene keen to win the series against Pakistan – Cricket News Update
The Sri Lankan skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, is expecting a better performance from his side in the last Test against Pakistan, and win or a draw at Pallekele will seal the series for the Islanders.
Ironically, the Lankans have not won a single Test series since the retirement of the legendary off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Muralitharan-c1864, who carried the Islanders’ bowling burden for more than 15 years.
Pundits have been extremely harsh on their impotent bowling attack, which failed to make any kind of an impression against teams like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, Pakistan or South Africa last year.
Jayawardene’s men however, have a great chance to turn the tables in the on-going battle against the Green Shirts as they won the first Test at Galle and drew the second at Colombo.
Pakistan came close to a victory in the second match but with the help of weather and an extremely flat track, the home team was able to avoid defeat. The Sri Lankan captain admitted that the visitors dominated the match but he hopes
for an improved performance in the third Test, where Jayawardene thinks that conditions will be quite different than those witnessed at Colombo.
The middle-order batsman said, "Pakistan came back at us in this Test match and they probably feel confident that they finished on top of us. But it's a different wicket [in Pallekele] and it's good for us knowing where we are right
now."
Jayawardene, who took over Sri Lanka's leadership once again after the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s assault in the last
match at any cost in order to win the three-match series and prove a point to the rest of the cricketing fraternity.
"We need to push ourselves harder and find a way of winning that Test match. We need to be more sharp in executing certain game plans, and make sure we don't allow their top-order to dominate so easily and try and create more pressure,"
the great batsman said.
