http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 lauds Sri Lankan team for ODI series win against Pakistan – Cricket News Update
Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene has spoken out in praise of his team’s ability to handle pressure, which he feels saw them through to a 3-1 ODI series win against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 after they clinched a 2-wicket victory in the final ODI at the R. Premadasa
Stadium in Colombo on June 18.
“We knew we would be put under pressure and I thought throughout the series all the guys showed a lot of composure in handling situations,” Jayawardene said.
“The way we handled tough situations than Pakistan was better. Our fielding standards were much better as well and I am proud about that,” he added.
After suffering a 6-wicket defeat in the first match of the one-day series, directly after they’d lost the final T20 to the Men In Green by 23 runs, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 managed to bounce back and make their mark with a comprehensive 76-run victory in the second ODI
played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on June 9.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 (119) guided his team to a solid total of 280, after which Thisara Perera spearheaded the intense bowling attack which saw him claim 6 for 44, cutting the tourists off at 204.
The 4th ODI marked yet another effective display on the part of the Sri Lankan team, as Perera once again triggered a complete collapse of the Pakistani batting order, claiming 4 in the 41st over to restrict the visitors to 199 – 44
runs short of the target.
The final of the series again saw the Lankan side maintaining a calm approach as they clinched a narrow 2-wicket win, with 2 balls remaining. Chasing 248, the home team recovered effectively from the early losses of openers Dilshan (10) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WU-Tharanga-c2802
(2), with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913, who took 15 off the last over to steer his team to victory.
“We had a big challenge against a good side. We worked hard in winning this series,” Jayawardene said. “As a captain I am very pleased and we need to move forward from what we have learned ... hopefully we will keep improving and be consistent in all forms
of the game.”
With the limited-overs leg of the tour wrapped up, a 3-match Test series is scheduled to commence on June 22 at the Galle International Stadium.
