The seasoned middle-order batsman had to take the responsibility in the best interest of Sri Lankan cricket. Before his reappointment, Jayawardene made it clear that he cannot lead the team for a long period of time.
However, Dilshan thinks that the vice-captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913 is not ready as yet to take such a responsibility on his shoulders and Jayawardene’s tenure needs to be extended, while the young all-rounder can keep working on enhancing

"You can't give someone the captaincy all of a sudden. He (Mathews) has to be groomed under a good captain for two to three years. Not just on how to handle things on the field, but also off the field. Those are some of the things
I learned. It's not easy, mind you,” shared Dilshan.
The right-hander further added that senior players cannot keep playing forever and youngsters will have to take on the responsibilities eventually. However, he believes the right time to depend on the juniors will be after the 2015
mega event, which will be mutually held in Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
He added, "Kumar [Sangakkara], Mahela and I are nearing our retirement age. After the next World Cup we would be gone. I think Mahela will have to shoulder the burden till the next World Cup."
