Mahela Jayawardene wary of Saeed Ajmal – Cricket News Update
Sri Lankan skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, is wary of Pakistan’s ace spinner, Saeed Ajmal, ahead of the five match ODI series between the two Asian cricketing giants.
Jayawardene considers Ajmal to be a “world-class” bowler and believes that the optimum combination of variation and control is what makes the off-spinner so special.
Acknowledging the threat posed by Ajmal, Jayawardene said, “What makes him a world-class bowler is his variation and control. You have the variation, it's always an added bonus, but the important thing is
the control. Even Murali, why he was so successful was that he had the control. You create pressure on the batsmen. That's what Ajmal's been doing.”
Jayawardene held that Ajmal has come a long way since he first arrived at the international arena. The lynchpin of Lankan batting order said that despite having subtle variations in his bowling, Ajmal did
not have the same control and with passage of time has perfected the skill.
Ajmal currently sits at second place on ICC’s Men ODI ranking for bowlers with 729 points. The off-spinner would want to make the most of the spinning tracks in Sri Lanka and close the gap with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LL-Tsotsobe-c1842,
the South African pacer, who holds the number one spot with 743 points.
The five match ODI series between Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 will kick-off with a game at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, June 7.
The two match T20I series that preceded the ODI ended in a draw with both sides securing a win each. Both the T20 matches were played at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota. The surface
there assisted bowlers; however, Pallekele will be conducive for batsman.
Jayawardene knows that despite having the home advantage, it is the tourists who’ll start the match as favourites. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, in recent times, has done exceptionally well against their Thursdays’ opponents,
winning eight of the last ten fixtures.
Hoping to end Pakistan’s dominance, Jayawardene said, “Pakistan's record against us speaks for itself; they have played much better cricket than us during the Asia Cup and even in the UAE. It's up to us
to lift our game individually as well as a group and try and come up with game plans and execute them.”
