After dashing Indian opener Virender Sehwag, the India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has also decided to bat for implementation of the controversial Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS).
The frequent umpiring errors during international cricket matches, specifically regarding leg-before and caught behind appeals, prompted the Indian skipper to speak in favour of the contentious and the much-debated Umpire Decision Review
System.
Before the first Test against the visiting http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 on the opening day of the first Test at Motera forced Dhoni to
volte-face his opinion about the UDRS.
The wicketkeeper batsman said that if the umpires continued making wrong decisions, then the ICC and the teams would be left with no other option but to implement the Umpire Decision Review System in every match. The hard-hitting glove man
also called for some stringent measures to improve the plunging standard of International umpiring.
"The standard of umpiring has gone down and we need to have strong measures to improve that", Dhoni said.
However, the 29-year-old Indian batsman did add that the review system should be flawless.
"But, as I have said earlier, I am not going to buy a life jacket that doesn't come with a warranty", the wicketkeeper batsman reiterated. "At times you tend to make mistakes. The umpires are also most of the time thinking about over rates
and player behaviour", added Dhoni.
India and Sri Lanka are the two teams that had experienced the referral system for the first time in the history of International cricket during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in 2008. Both the players and the management did not have a sound
idea of how to make the best use of the system so it was an abortive experiment for both sides.
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and many Indian players are not in favour of implementing the UDRS since then.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 became the only Indian player to support a referral system earlier this month after saying that "I am a big fan of the UDRS".
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been trying to convince the Indian Cricket Board to implement the UDRS during all international matches in the country but the BCCI is adamant to its “big no”.
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 also have had a number of negotiations with BCCI to introduce UDRS during last month’s two match Test series and now Cricket South Africa is trying to convince the Indian board for the December Test series between India
and Proteas in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
