India cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni feels his side has peaked at the right time for the high-pressure ICC World Cup 2011 final against co-hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 on Saturday.
However, Dhoni did opine that his players are yet to deliver their full potential game in the showpiece event.
“There is plenty more to come from us. We gained momentum as the tournament went on and we are now peaking at the right time,” said Dhoni while talking to the media on the eve of the first-ever all-Asian World Cup final.
The 29-year-old Ranchi wicketkeeper said that his side gained momentum in the knockout stage during which they outclassed the four-time reigning World Champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the semi-finals. He further
added that two knockout games in four days were not a problem for them and in fact, they helped them to stay focused.
“The good thing is that we did not have a long break after the semifinal. We travelled from Mohali on Thursday, practised on Friday and will play the match on Saturday. It does not give anyone time to think too far ahead or worry about the
future,” said the wicketkeeper batsman.
Dhoni declined the talks of additional pressure of playing the final in front of the home crowd and the burden of expectations. He said that they are not thinking about Saturday’s game as a final and it would be just another match for them.
However, he did say that they take every game as a challenge.
When asked whether Kumar Sangakkara and his men had the advantage as they crushed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 by a mammoth 112-run margin at the same venue in the group stage, Dhoni said that they have had a practice session of two-and-a-half hours in the
ground and found the conditions quite familiar.
He further added that they know what to expect from the track and would come up with a foolproof strategy.
