"The batting powerplay was the turning point of the match as we lost too many wickets during that period,” said Dhoni while talking to the media persons. “After that, we should have curbed our instincts and looked to play out the 50 overs,"
he further added.
India looked to post an intimidating 300 plus total, as they rode on mater blaster, Sachin Tendulkar’s whirlwind 111 to reach 267 for 1 in the 40th over. The team lost their last nine wickets in the next nine overs for just 29
runs, as they were bundled out for 296 in the 49th over.
Dhoni lashed out the batsmen for not capitalising on the restrictions and said that the players should have played for the country and not for the crowd. He insisted that the players should have curbed their thoughts after the side had lost
a few wickets in the power-play.
"Spectators love to see fours and sixes, but when you lose two-three wickets, you need to change your approach,” stressed Dhoni as the depth overs disaster cost them a three-wicket defeat to South Africa. “When you have 270-280 runs on the
board, batsmen want to play big shots but you need to curb your thinking. Different people have different roles and responsibilities," he added.
South Africa’s batting line-up, which choked against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 last Sunday by losing the low-scored clash by just 6 runs, kept their nerves yesterday and cruised past the 297 run target with two balls to spare and two wickets in hand.
Despite last night’s three-wicket loss, India are still at the top of Group B with seven points from five games and have already qualified for the quarter-finals. Dhoni insisted to his batsmen to learn lessons from Sunday’s defeat, as there still is a long
way to go in the World Cup. He further added that his men would have to master the batting power-play if they are to lift the coveted trophy.
