Mahesh Bhupathi/ Leander Paes qualify for Barclays ATP World Tour Finals – Tennis News
The team of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes became the fifth team to make it to the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals tournament. The made it to the season ending championships after reaching the semi-finals of the Shanghai Rolex
Masters.
They will face-off against the teams of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor and Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner who have already qualified for the tournament.
Their is still room for three more teams to qualify for the tournament and another sub-continent team of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna, from the sub-continent, are in the hunt for a spot at the Barclays ATP World Tour
Finals tournament.
Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is conducted every year in which top eight teams on the ATP rankings collide with each other in search of a title. The season-end finale will take place in the most famous tennis stadium of London;
the O2 Arena. The tournament is scheduled to be played next month, from November 20-27.
Mahesh Bhupathi turned pro in 1995 and since then he has been revolving around the tennis news as a double and mix-double tennis star. She teamed up with Indian women tennis ace, Sania Mirza, in 2009 and lifted the Australian Open
trophy; first mix-doubles indian team to lift a Grand Slam title. Indian Tennis ace, Bhupathi, has won 11 Grand Slam titles; all in double or mixed-double category.
Leander Peas is another Indian tennis ace who won six doubles and six mixed doubles Grand Slam titles in his career. He turned pro in 1991 and since then he has been appearing in various doubles tournaments and is massively experienced.
The “Indian Express” have qualified for the year-end championship for sixth times and it is the first time after 2002 that they have qualified for this tournament after reforming their full time partnership this season.
In 1997, their debut as a team was very successful as they reached the final of the tournament but lost at the hands of the Rick Leach and Jonathan Stark. Two years later they again teamed up to contest the finals against Lareau-O’Brien
and reached the final. In 2000, they again reached the final against Johnson-Norval but lost for the third time.
Peas and Bhupathi have a 30-10 win loss mark for the season and their successful battles have brought triumphs in Aircel Chennai Open, the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami and the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. They also contested
the final of Australian Open and AEGON Championships this year but lost against the Bryan brothers.
Bhupathi is 37 years old while his partner is 38 years old, even though their fitness suggests otherwise.
