Mahesh Bhupathi announces his retirement at the end of 2013 –Tennis News
Indian doubles tennis professional, Mahesh Bhupathi, announced that he will be finish his competitive tennis career at the end of 2013.
Talking to the media the Indian professional said, “I've had a great career. I don't enjoy leaving my baby alone and going for tours so much. I am happy to call it a day. I've had the opportunity to play alongside many great players.
From Todd Woodbridge to Max Mirnyi to Leander Paes to Mary Pierce to Martina Hingis, it has been a great ride for me. "He does not need to prove anything to anybody. He has scored 100 centuries. The people in the media writing about him have no idea. He will
take the right decision at the right time.”
The 38-year-old Indian challenger received his break in 1997, when he secured six ATP doubled titles in seven finals and the same year he secured the win in the mixed doubles category at the Roland Garros. Ever since his first
major hit, he has been playing on all kind of tennis courts and snatched away several titles. Over the years, he contested in all the Grand Slams and several ATP Masters Events, pocketing away a decent spot every time.
In the year 2010, the Indian native returned to the courts with a strong resolve and reached to six final rounds, comprising of four ATP World Tour Masters event. At the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters, he rallied past the American duo
Bryan-Bryan in the quarter-finals but in the next round, the Indian retired due to a serious leg injury. Furthermore, he contested until the semi-finals of Roger Cup in Toronto, which gave him a slight edge over the other competitors. He concluded the year
by being the runner-up at the Barclays ATP World Tour Final held in the indoor hard courts of London.
The right-hander Indian contestant reunited with his compatriot, Leander Paes, for the first time in 10 years of his professional career. Together the pair capitalized on three main titles in five final events. He was the runner-up
champion at the Australian Open against the famous twins Bryan Brothers. He battled with a noteworthy pace, bagging home a trophy in 15 straight seasons, since his arrival. He is one of the greatest assert that India ever had and will surely perform to his
