Mahesh Bhupathi plans to take legal action against AITA – Tennis News
One of the most successful tennis players of India, Mahesh Bhupathi, has planned to take All India Tennis Association (AITA) to the court due to the recent fiasco.
Talking to the reporters, Bhupathi said, “We are exploring it, we don’t know yet but I don’t think what they have done and the way they have done it, is fully legal. So we are exploring it what they have done is right and obviously
if not legal, we are gonna go after it.”
AITA recently banned Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna for two years for playing politics with the national body. Both of them had put AITA under severe pressure by threatening to pull out of the London Olympics if they were not partnered
together.
It all started when the national body teamed Bhupathi with his former partner, Leander Paes, against the will of the former. AITA bowed down against the pressure of Bhupathi and Bopanna and made their pair. It requested Paes to
play with youngster, Vishnu Vardhan, and he agreed in the end after making some reservations and showing disappointment.
Bhupathi and Bopanna performed terribly at the biggest sports event of the world and went down at the hands of a French team, which had entered the event on a wild card, in the second round. Paes and Vardhan also lost in the second
round but they fought bravely against the eventual finalists.
AITA was clearly furious on Bhupathi and Bopanna for creating all this fuss. The national body did not select them for the India versus New Zealand Davis Cup first play-off tie. The young Indian team played superbly and white washed
the Kiwis 5-0.
When India took an unbeatable 3-0 lead on Saturday, AITA announced a two year ban on these two decorated tennis players.
Bhupathi is feeling quite bad for his partner, Bopanna, who did only what his senior friend said. Bhupathi is now near his retirement days but his younger partner has many years of tennis left in him.
The legend added, “Rohan has played for India for 10 years and I have played now for about 18 years now. And to get slapped with something like this, I take this as rough.”
He went on to say, “To conclude, I do feel really bad for my friend and partner Rohan who has been caught in the cross fire of dirty politics.”
Bopanna broke his successful partnership with Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi on the call of Bhupathi at the start of last season.
