The legendary batsman Sanath Jayasuriya, who is also a parliamentarian now, has also been included into the preliminary squad of 30 players which is supposed to be pruned down to 15 players. Having Jayasuriya (now 42-years old) along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chaminda-Vaas-c1223 into
the preliminary groups of players has created many doubts among the masses. Both these players had emerged as stars into the 1996’s cup, but now, they haven’t been into one-day squads for long.
Meanwhile, according to the news from Bengal (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 Government is planning to impose a 20% tax upon the tickets for the world cup matches. However, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is going to make an appeal
to the government by meeting the finance minister in person through a committee led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jagmohan-Dalmiya-c65287, the president of the association. The committee will request the authorities to not to impose additional taxes upon spectators as it will only result in
discouraging them from coming to see the matches live.
According to the news, the tickets for the India versus England match, which is to be held on February 27, will be sold for Rs 1200 to 1500, while the tickets for the matches in which home side will not be playing, the prices will vary from Rs 700 to Rs
1000. In case the government imposes the 20% tax, the prices of the tickets will go up accordingly.
While talking to the reporters, the president CAB, Dalmiya said, “We will make an appeal to not levy entertainment tax on a premier event like the World Cup.” While condemning the possible imposition of additional taxes, the join secretary CAB, Biswarup
Dey said, “Even the government had waived off entertainment tax in Commonwealth Games, Asian Games. At least in the last 10 years, I have not come across a situation like this. This is an international tournament with the highest stature. We will make an appeal
to the state to waive off the tax.”
