Mahmood Al Zarooni in a determined form to defend the UAE Oaks on 23rd February
As the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival is taking course towards the grand finale night, 31st March, the home country breeding and training facility, Godolphin Racing is putting in an effort to secure all the important and significant scores.
Thursday, 23rd February marks the eleventh fixture of the Carnival at Meydan.
The feature race for the Carnival is the Group 3 UAE Oaks sponsored by the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group to be raced by three-year-old fillies over a mile and 1 ½ furlong. The race has attracted a lineup of six fillies and the purse for the winner is
£96,774.
Mahmood Al Zarooni has entered Pimpernel and Falls Of Lora, the two will compete with Colorful Notion, Alsindi, Moon Spun and Mary Fildes.
Pimpernel, Invincible Spirit’s three-year-old filly out of mare Anna Pallida, raced her 2012 debut on 3rd February. She was the runner up in the UAE 1,000 Guineas, riding with Frankie Dettori while her stable mate, Gamilati, made it to the winner’s
enclosure.
The closing of the previous year for Pimpernel was nothing less than grand as she was sent as a favourite in her last three starts and won two out of those while being placed second once.
Pimpernel’s second start of the year has been paired up with Frankie Dettori while stable mate, Falls Of Lora will ride through the track with Mickael Barzalona. For Falls Of Lora, the UAE Oaks is the seasonal debut.
She is Street Cry’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare Firth Of Lorne. The Darley bred has raced six times during the last season, out of which she claimed two races and was positioned once only.
Mahmood Al Zarooni has already got the UAE 1,000 and 2, 000 Guineas under his belt and now is aiming to defend his UAE Oaks title that has never gone to any other trainer till yet.
Al Zarooni said: "They are both nice fillies but Pimpernel has the advantage of a run and showing that she handles Tapeta. It was a good run behind Gamilati and with that filly to be aimed at Newmarket, Pimpernel will be ridden by Frankie Dettori. She has
worked nicely since the Guineas, while Falls Of Lora has been going well also, but is certain to come on for the run."
