Mahmood Al Zarooni targeting Gamilati and Pimpernel for the UAE 1,000 Guineas on 3rd February at Meydan
After enjoying three collective victories from the sixth fixture of the Dubai World Cup Carnival 2012, the Godolphin Racing is preparing again as trainer, Mahmood Al Zarooni is set to go forth with the seventh fixture that falls on 3rd February,
and features the UAE 1,000 Guineas. For the seven furlong trial race, Mahmood Al Zarooni will put Gamilati and Pimpernel on test.
The three-year-old bay filly of Bernardini out of Illustrious Miss, Gamilati has already scored her seasonal debut victory in the UAE 1,000 Guineas Trial presented by Longines on 6th January 2012, where she was sent as the 4
to 11 favourite on a field of six, which was held over a distance of seven furlongs.
This was Gamilati’s second life time success as before this she had won the Group 2 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes on 8th July, 2011 at Newmarket.
The eleven contestants competed on the six furlong track with the 5 to 2 favourite of the race, Shumoos, finishing third.
Out of the four starts that she made in 2011, she succeeded once, and being placed twice with a miserable defeat that led her to an eleventh position. Both the times it was Frankie Dettori who rode, Gamilati to victory, and would be there for her in
the UAE 1,000 Guineas.
Mahmood Al Zarooni’s other bright prospect for the race is the three-year-old bay filly, Pimpernel, who has not raced since 22nd October, 2011, and thus the UAE 1,000 Guineas will mark her seasonal debut.
Her seven attempts at racing during 2011, found her victorious four times while she was placed in the rest of her starts. Her maiden stakes got out of the way on her first try on 25th June 2011, and on 13th August
she won the Live In-Play Football On Skybet Mobile Fillies’ Nursery at Newmarket.
On 24th September, she was victorious in the EBF “Dansili” Jersey Lily Fillies’ Nursery at Newmarket.
Pimpernel’s final start of the season was on 22nd October, 2011, in the Totepool Stakes at Newbury, where she was entered as the evening’s favourite.
Al Zarooni said:
"They are both very nice fillies with very good form in Europe but Gamilati has that run under her belt this year and has proved herself on the Meydan Tapeta. Mickael Barzalona will ride Pimpernel and they should both run well but that race fitness
does suggest Gamilati is our best chance”.
