Maicon set for a move to Real Madrid
According to reports coming out of Italy, a deal has been agreed to between Real Madrid and Inter Milan for the transfer of the Brazilian right back, Maicon, for a reported 28 Million Euros with a number of add-ons based on performances and appearances for the Spanish club.
Jose Mourinho’s move to Real Madrid made many speculate the transfers of other players such as Maicon following their former manager and it looks like that is what’s going to be keep happening.
Mourinho is familiar with the talents of all these players and they have a very good relationship with him, it looks like Maicon, who appeared unhappy at Inter’s insistence on rejecting previous bids, will get what he wants as he links up with Mourinho at the biggest club in the world.
Maicon started his career with the Brazilian club, Cruzeiro, where his impressive performances earned him a move to the French club, Monaco. After spending only two years at Monaco, Inter came calling and Maicon experienced the most successful period in his career during which he won four Serie A titles, one Copa Italia, two Super Copa Italia’s and a UEFA Champions League trophy last year under the man he is going to join at Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho.
Rated as one of the best right backs in the world, Maicon was one of the only decent performers for Brazil at the World Cup, where they exited early at the hands of the Dutch team.
The move appears to be a little bizarre since Real Madrid already possess one of the best right backs in the world, Sergio Ramos, and neither player will be happy with a place on the bench. How Mourinho will keep both of these players happy is hard to imagine but what is clear from this move is that Real Madrid have acquired a quality player who is of the highest standard, equally good going forward and defending and will not be intimidated by the size of the club or the decorated players who are there at the moment due to his success at club level with Inter Milan.
The transfer comes after a long period where it seemed like Real Madrid would not get their man, after Inter Milan maintaining that the player was not for sale. It appears though that as always Real have managed to get their man and despite Inter’s reluctance, an offer was made which could not be turned down by the Italian club.
Real have been fairly busy in the transfer market, though not as busy as last summer, and they will be hoping that Maicon along with the others who have been brought to the club will help them regain the title from Barcelona and win a tenth European title.
Although the move has not been confirmed yet, once it has been Maicon will be hoping he joins up with Real for pre-season and settles into the team quickly because if he gets off to a slow start, there are plenty of replacements available and it will be almost impossible for the Brazilian to make a place for him in the side once all the dust settles.
