Maicon's Future Still Uncertain
As the twists and turns surrounding Inter Milan defender Maicon's pending transfer to Real Madrid continue, Real consultant Ernesto Bronzetti has claimed that the Spanish club is no longer interested in the right-back's services.
It has been reported that Maicon is willing to lower his personal wage demands to reunite with his former Inter coach Jose Mourinho in Madrid.
According to Bronzetti, who spoke to Sky Sport Italia, the Italian club's high asking price for the player has been obstructing the deal.
“I talk to [Real Madrid president] Florentino Perez every day and I am aware that the price tag Inter put on the player was out of sync with Madrid's valuation of player, considering his age," said Bronzetti. "Nothing really happened after that."
€28m for an Aging Player?
Reports have claimed that Inter have put a €28 million price tag on the Brazilian international, one that is apparently deemed too high for 29-year-old Maicon by Mourinho's new club.
The Portuguese manager has been unwilling to discuss Maicon specifically, revealing only that he wishes to sign a defender, but Madrid's reported €26m offer last week appeared to confirm the club's interest in the Brazilian.
That bid was turned down by turned down by Inter on Friday, according to la Gazzetta dello Sport.
Bronzetti then claimed that Perez lost interest in the pursuit of Maicon long ago.
“It's true that [Real Madrid's General Manager] Jorge Valdano met with Maicon's agent around a week ago, but, as I said, the asking price was too excessive," he said.
"The truth is that Perez had dropped the idea to sign Maicon a good while back."
Meanwhile, Inter's current manager Rafael Benitez has expressed his interest in keeping Maicon at the club.
With several actors tugging at the player and Maicon himself seemingly interested in a move to the Spanish capital, this transfer story shows no signs of ending just yet.
