Maid of Honor Speech?

Question

I am the maid of honor in a friend's wedding and also an attorney. I thought it might be funny to incorporate legal elements into my speech with a comedic twist. I had brainstormed something where I contract the bride to the groom, does anyone have any ideas to throw in my direction?

The idea isn't bad, but could be difficult to be very funny. It might just reinforce all those negative opinions of attorneys. Good luck.

I think comedic twists at weddings are nice. Everyone will either be envying the bride or happy already anyway...so laughter is good!!!!! But, your legal references might not catch on as YOU are the attorney...not the bride of or the groom. Perhaps post a couple of your ideas???

Unless you are known for being funny, I'd play this more like the genuine and authentic friend with beautiful well wishes. Attempts at humor can really fall flat - and since the couple's commitment has already been solemnized by a religious official or JP, something like a contract might be redundant.

Unless a lot of people in attendance will be attorneys, I would skip the legal references ... people might not get your jokes and it'll just make things awkward.

Also, "contracting" the bride to the groom could rub a lot of people the wrong way. Especially if it comes across as something like a pre-nup, or her becoming his property. Even if you don't intend it that way.

I would just keep it short and sweet. Mention how much you love the bride, how grateful you are to the groom for making her happy, and wish them both the best.

I don't think it is a good idea. I think you should keep comedic twist out. A wedding is the most important day of a girls life. Id keep it serious.

not a good idea this speech is not about you it should come from your heart about how you feel about the bride and groom my daughter's best man at her wedding did something on that order and made a fool of himself kc
