Mail De Bievre set for a comeback at Newbury
Mail De Bievre is set to be unleashed in the Grade 2 Betfair Denman Chase at Newbury in England on Saturday, February 9, 2013. He has not been seen in action for quite some time, but is expected to be strong in the all important competition.
The eight-year-old gelding has given some tremendous performances for his team and will be looking to repeat the same this time around. He has managed to maintain a pretty decent winning percentage, which is an encouraging sign for his fans.
Overall, he has participated in 14 races, winning five of them whereas finished as a runner up on four occasions. He likes running over fences, as he has never dropped out of the top three in this format. This means that his rivals will have to watch out
for him at Newbury.
However, the French challenger has been out of action for quite some time, which means that he will be a touch rusty. His confidence level might be low compared to some of the other runners, so he will have to be at his best in order to finish at the top
of the table in the end.
The seasoned stallion last represented his team back in 2011 and the result was not a good one for him at all. He was rated as the favourite to succeed, but only managed to end up in fourth place, which was quite disappointing. He will have to forget that
performance completely this time around.
According to his trainer, Tom George, “He arrived in the yard four months ago and on everything we've seen he ticks all the right boxes. He had a tendon injury but has recuperated well and there's no reason why he shouldn't find his form again. He's done
plenty of schooling and jumps more like an English horse than a French horse, he's quite careful.”
Commenting about his other challenger, Baby Mix, he said, “We thought he had grown up a lot over the summer and become more relaxed, but it has transpired that he probably wasn't feeling on top of his game. He's back bucking and kicking now and showing all
the right signs and we couldn't be happier with his work.”
