Mail De Bievre sets sights on Champion Chase
Mail De Bievre has set his sights on the Champion Chase at Cheltenham in England on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. There is still plenty of time in the event, so he will look to practice hard for it. He will be up against some quality runners though, so things
will not be easy at all.
He is currently not in the list of entrants for Cheltenham, but there is plenty of time for his team to decide. If he makes it there, things will definitely become a lot more interesting for the fans.
Tom George, trainer of Mail De Bievre, is hopeful of a better show from his challenger and said that the Champion Chase could be a good option for the eight-year-old, who seems to be a touch rusty at the moment.
He said, “He is obviously a very exciting horse. He did run with the choke out but Paddy [Brennan] said he couldn't go any steadier on him, that's the way the horse has always run so two and a half miles would have been far enough. He has an unbelievably
high cruising speed, his jumping is excellent and he probably got tired going to the second last.”
The trainer added, “He is quick enough to run over two miles and there won't be many two-mile horses that could go with him. He's not in the Champion Chase but we are thinking about it because there aren't many that can do his kind of thing. Something has
to run against Sprinter Sacre and I can't see many others who are like Mail De Bievre.”
Overall, Mail De Bievre has participated in eight chase events, winning three of them whereas finished as a runner in four of them. He was out of action for quite some time and made a comeback recently at Newbury.
However, things did not pan out well for the seasoned performer, as he failed to finish in the top three. He was given a pretty decent starting price, but disappointed one and all in the end. He will be hoping for a change of fortune next time around otherwise
his fans will be left dejected.
