I was curious, in venezuelas current state, i hear its become very unstable.. Is the mail currier service very relyable there?

Say i wanted to send a package there for a friend, could i be able to count of the package getting there, or would it become lost or arrive there weeks/months late?

  1. Depends on what type of company you use. State mail is very unreliable, but courier companies will work fine. If you want to make sure the package gets there, maybe using certified post is enough, but if you want it to arrive promptly you will need to use Fedex or DHL.

  2. It is not reliable. Send it with a private mail company like fed ex, domesa or MRW. I have gotten Cd's and letters months late. But my sister has had packages lost.

  3. Hi!  I actually live here in Venezuela and have been here for abt a year!!  I'm a US citizen and have had things mailed to me here by my friends and family so i have a lot of real world experience with the mailing system here.  First off let me start by saying that people generally don't recieve mail here everyday, unlike in the states.  There are no post offices and most people(95%) don't even have mail boxes.

If u send something here by normal mail it arrives in Caracas and then is sent by bus (like greyhound with people on it and everything) to the nearest bus terminal.  then u have to go to that bus terminal to get it..which could be an hour from where u live!!

If u use private companies it works a little different.  The most popular company here to use is MRW.  It is a private company so it's a lot more secure, but u still usually have to go to the main bus terminal in ur area to recieve ur package!!

Another (and perhaps better) choice would be to use DHL.  It is a much more reliable company and it is popular here as well as the states.  And as an added bonus... they even deliver ur package directly to ur house!!

But with all that being said i would still think twice b4 sending something really expensive like an "ipod" or "jewerly", cause every package that arrives here can easily be opened and searched.  And sometimes what u sent never arrives (especially if it's very expensive)!  So if u do decide to send something i would definetly suggest using one of the private companies that i suggested and getting insurance and delivery confirmation when u send it!  this will give u peace of mind and if anything happens, the company will have to pay for what was lost or damaged!!

Hopefully this answer has cleared up any questions that u had abt the mailing system here in Venezuela.  If u have any more questions abt this country feel free to email me and i will answer them as best i can.  Good luck!!

  4. Use DHL, the mail in Venezuela has never been reliable. I lived there for 20 years and the mail always sucked!

Also do not send anything that is even remotely valuable, they WILL steal it.

  5. Speaking from personal experience, letters mailed from the US seem to take anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 month to arrive.  Packages are another story....some have arrived in a relatively short amount of time while others have taken 5 or 6 months to arrive.

While it is more expensive, I recommend DHL or another courier service.
