Mailbox vandalism deterrents?

Question

Over the years I have replaced 7 curbside type mailboxes. I have tried the heavy duty kinds, the rubber kind, and tried putting it high, low, all to no avail. The baseball bat kids are winning! My mailbox is at the end of a long driveway, so I can't monitor it. We are in a nice area with a private security guard. Once someone was caught and his mother replaced my mailbox. Now that one is gone.

I do not care for the brick mausoleum looking ones. Any experiences or suggestions?

the problem is the fix isn't pretty.  Growing up in the country this was always a huge problem.  We fixed this by purchasing a metal garbage can, filling it with concrete and gravel with a 6" X  6" post with the mailbox on top.  To help the "can" look aesthetically acceptable it was painted every year with either a design, smiley face, brick design, etc., etc.  Sure it was knocked over a couple of times - but it always survived!

Not really an answer, but maybe a solution, get a post office box?  How far are you from your post office?  It might be worth the trip to get the mail to avoid the agravation?

You could put 2 posts in front of the box and have something cool like a wrought iron scroll or something similar between the posts. Use heavy gauge pipe or wooden posts, whatever hurts them and not you!

first off   never put any thing  dangerous  in front  inside or on top remember this is part of a road  no big deal should you run over a mail box with your vehicle  could be very serious if you take some of this advice .you can monitor it with a stand alone camera only takes pictures with motion  has a flash and is about $100.00 us  Moultrie Game Spy M40 Digital Stealth Scouting Camera  good luck catching your bad guys!

put a 3" pole in front of it and fill it with concrete sink it at least 2 feet with a bag or two of concrete at the bottom that should get there attention

I read in a book one time about a character who filled his mailbox with cement.  Gave the batters something to think about.

I had the same problem.What I did was put 2, 2" oil well tubing 4ft into the ground near the front(street) side of the mail box and filled them with concrete .Also since once some nearby mail boxes were stolen I wrapped the wood poles with barb wire.Problem solved and it doesn't look bad(paint the poles).You could probably use some metal(6') fence post(pounded deep into the ground) to do the same thing.Just keep them about 6" to 1' from the mailbox.

Have your local welding shop make you one out of 1/2" steel mounted on a piece of drill stem. Last one you'll ever have to buy.
