Mailen Auroux slays Paula Cristina Goncalves to secure a final spot – Santiago ITF 2011

Argentina’s Mailen Auroux flashed past Brazilian qualifier Paula Cristina Goncalves with a breadstick at the Copa Providencia BCI 2011, a professional women’s tennis tournament which is held on the clay courts in Santiago, Chile
and is a part of the ITF Women’s Circuit. She barely sweated to register a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the 21-year-old Brazilian, eventually securing a title round spot on Friday.
Ranked 460th in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier Rankings, Auroux drilled through the qualifier, world number 558, in straight sets on their first encounter. After prevailing in this one hour long marathon, she stayed on
course to bid for her maiden career title.
The rising Argentinean star, Auroux, quickly made on-roads in the opening set. She unleashed barrage of groundstrokes to go on a five games killing spree before the qualifier could hold on. Auroux held her serve again in the seventh
game and pocketed a breadstick in almost twenty minutes.
The booming starlet kept momentum sailing into the final set and easily swiped in her opening serve. She got the coveted break in the second game but squandered her lead in the following game. After the scores were levelled at
2-2, the Argentinean reeled off next four games in a row and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
The 23-year-old Argentinean has had a monotonous season so far. She breezed into the quarter-finals of the Buenos Aires ITF, the second tournament she participated this season. She fell to four match losing streak twice before
raising the level of her game earlier this month again at the Buenos Aires ITF.
She confidently marched in these Chilean clay courts and dumped her countrywoman, Andrea Benitez, in straight sets. She then eased past Dutch qualifier Angelique Van Der Meet and overpowered Peruvian Bianca Botto to set-up this
meeting.
Auroux will square off against the second seeded Paraguayan, Veronica Cepede Royg, who trashed eighth seeded Slovak, Romana Tabak, in straight sets to reach this spot.
The Paraguayan lost an early serve but broke Tabak’s serve twice to bag the opener with a 6-4 success.
Royg maintain consistency in her game in the final set and smoothly plucked in entire serves. She capitalise a break chance to her advantage in the last game to seal the victory by winning seven games to five.
The seed triumph her maiden title this season at the Campos Do Jordao and is in great shape this season. Auroux needs to lift the level of her game to scarp out her maiden title.
