Mailing from Massachusetts to Maryland?

How many stamps do I need if I'm mailing something from Massachusetts to Maryland? Do I need only one?

If you are just mailing a standard letter than yes you only need one.  If you are mailing something oversized or heavier than a standard package then you are going to need more postage.  There is a postage calculator on the USPS site, if you are not mailing a standard letter it will help you figure out how much postage you need.
