Main Sequence on road to Neptune Investment Management Great Voltigeur Stakes at York
David Lanigan’s 3-year-old colt, Main Sequence, will be seen in next month’s Group 2 Neptune Investment Management Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, as he gears up for a cracking performance in the oldest Classic, Ladbrokes St Leger, at Doncaster later this
year.
Owned by Niarchos Family, the dashing runner has won four races so far in his career. After making his seasonal debut with a wonderful success at Newmarket, Main Sequence maintained his unbeaten run by clinching the first position in the Group 3 Betfred
Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield.
After four successive wins, the son of Aldebaran suddenly lost his rhythm, when finishing second behind Camelot in the Group 1 Investec Derby at Epsom at the start of last month.
After an unlucky trip, the Flaxman Holdings Ltd-bred could not get his act together and as a result, ended up fourth in the Group 1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp earlier this month.
Many experts regarded him as an unlucky loser behind Camelot's stablemate Imperial Monarch, as he was short of room in the dying moments of the £285,700.00 meeting.
The Ladbrokes St Leger is the top priority for Main Sequence, and the connections are set to give him a chance to regain his momentum next month. According to the present card, there are 43 entries in the 1-mile 4-furlong contest, which is scheduled to take
place on August 22nd.
Alan Cooper, who is racing manager to owners the Niarchos family, stated: "It is not set in stone yet but we are looking at the Great Voltigeur and then the St Leger. That is not definite yet, but David is very happy with the horse and he has come out of
his last race well.”
"What happened in France was unfortunate but a race is a race and we look forward to the next one now. It's very satisfactory that he has progressed from a handicapper at the beginning of the season to show he belongs at the highest level and obviously the
aim is to make him a Group One winner," he said of Main Sequence, who has earned £364,501 so far.
