Main Sequence ready for Investec Derby at Epsom
Main Sequence is all set to unleash his talent in the Group 1 Investec Derby, to be held at Epsom next month. His connections confirmed his participation in the Group 1 event after he continued his winning run at Lingfield,
where he sealed an easy win in the Betfred Derby Trial Stakes last Saturday.
Under Ted Durcan, David Lanigan’s trainee displayed a fabulous show after taking a steady start. He had to go through a hard time in the middle hours, when the 5-4 favourite, Shantaram, created a lot of problems for him.
Yet, the 3-year-old kept doing well and eventually seized the top rank by ¾ a length. It was Main Sequence’s fourth consecutive victory and the connections feel that the colt is well prepared to switch from handicap company
to the Group class.
The imminent Investec Derby will be Main Sequence’s first appearance over one and a half miles. His camp is confident that the colt will continue his good work and clinch a comprehensive triumph in the upcoming Group 1 competition.
Alan Cooper, racing manager for the owners the Niarchos Family, said: "He won very nicely and both Ted and David were very happy with him. He quickened up nicely and one of the reasons we wanted to go to Lingfield was to see
how he would be at that trip and it seemed to work out fine."
"It was a very good experience for Main Sequence and a very encouraging performance, so all being well, we'll be at Epsom on June 2. I think he deserves to run in the Derby. He's a progressive type and he's stepped up at every
asking. We'll see what happens next,” he added.
On the other hand, Marcus Tregonin expressed delight over Cavaleiro's third position in the Lingfield Derby Trial. Under Richard Mullen, the 3-year-old impressed everyone with his fantastic show, finishing among the top 3.
Marcus Tregonin uttered that Cavaleiro has a great chance of doing well in next month’s Derby, because his experience of Lingfield Derby Trial will be crucial. The Guy Brook-owned colt has registered two wins so far in his career.
