I have a male and just bought 2 females. I would have thought he'd be happy - not sure if he likes them. He is chasing then and not really having anything to do with them. The 2 females are also a little pale in color and staying in the top corner of tank. What is happening, is this normal

  1. Ive had maingano before and have had nothing but trouble with them. I had a  baby male in a mixed cichlid tank and he took over the whole tank (he was by far the smallest) . With this fish the trick is tank size, if you don't have a decent size tank say 50 gal plus i wouldn't bother....if the girls are near the filter that means there scared, all fish will do that if they think they're in danger and have no where to go. Pale colour would mean major stress (most likely fomr the male) You could do two things here, one return all fish and try a more 'peaceful' cichlid, or two give them a few more days and if hes still hastling the girls return him for a more relaxed male. Its up to you, but from personal experience these really arnt community fish and i do not recommend them to anybody. Good luck Angel

ps. dont forget to cycle the tank, i hope you did...and you dont mention what size or how long established...all would help for a better answer!!

  2. i think he maybe trying to breed with the females not 100%
