How do i keep the temperature perfect in my aquarium? I have a heater set at 75, when i have my light on for a long time, it adds about 5 degrees (too hot). when the light is off, it drops about ten degrees. (way too cold) when my aquarium gets too hot, i open my window, then i get cold! what can i do to ALWAYS have the perfect temperature with out having to turn the light off for a long time or opening the window?

  1. Well,   as you may know - Aquarium lights run on electricity coming from your house/apartment and not a manual battery.

Keeping the light on at all times would be an option,  but for my Aquarium,   I put a seperate light on the outside which shines inside and makes it just as good.  The cool part is if you look at the aquarium from the front,  you can't see the light if it's on the side because of the way the glass works.

You could try getting new lights because not all lights generate heat.

And temperature is defenetily important because most of my fish died because it was too hot or too gold,  they're for some reason too sensitive to it.

But your best option at this time (and easiest!) would be to light it up from the outside.  If you buy these long thin lights that can be attached along the edges of your aquarium,  it will seem as if it was lit up from the inside.   But I still think if you bring the heater down and turn the lights on (keep them on forever),  you won't need to worry.

Good luck and if you don't manage to fix your problem go to a specialist.

  2. Try mounting some cooling fans on the light hood. You can rig up some computer type fans to run from a small 12v plugpack and turn them on when the lights are running.

That should help remove the extra heat the lights are producing.

  3. turn the heater on 70 and have the light on so it adds up to 75. When you want to turn the light off set it on 85. that way it will always stay 75 degrees and you won't have to open a window and freeze to death

  4. What your saying don't make sense. If lights add 5 degrees then turning off light should only subtract 5 degrees.

You didn't say what kind of lights you have. Incandescent puts out more heat than fluorescent lights. You can raise light fixture higher above the aquarium to reduce heat.

Keeping light on 24 hrs a day stresses the fish.
