I am looking at getting a CRF250X for trail riding only (no racing), how much maintenence would be involved? How hard would it be to learn how to do it?

  1. As far as engine maintenace goes you wont have to do much as long as you change the oil quite frequently. Todays modern 4 stroke engines are meant to take quite a bit of abuse before having to overhaul the engine. Like I said, if you change the oil on a regular basis (I used to do it after every 3 rides) then the engine should last you as long as you own the bike.

Clean the air filter regularly (every 3 rides)

The purpose here is just to make sure you keep all foreign objects out of the engine.

Everything else is pretty easy to learn. All you need is just a little bit of mechanical knowledge and theres a ton of website out there to help you answer any questions you might have.

www.thumpertalk.com is one place I used to frequent on a regular basis that helped me with any questions I ever had pertaining to my dirt bike.

You can do it! Get that bike and learn!

  2. Purchase a shop manual for $35

A small price to pay for all the helpful information and the knowledge you'll gain learning how to adjust and repair every part of your bike.

Any motorcycle or quad owner that puts a single screwdriver or wrench to their bike, should own a manual.

You owe it to your bike, to get one.

  3. Ehh?

You have clearly said " only (no racing), how " yet you put this in the RACING THREAD.

Why not put this in the Transport section section under M/cycles?

    WOW
