Maja Reichard grabs Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Maja Reichard of Sweden grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke in SB11 category on day five of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Monday, September 3.
Reichard showered her expertise in the double lap breaststroke discipline and made her way to the finishing end for the crown. She gained a comfortable lead over her opponents from the start and ensured her place on top of the medal rostrum for the title.
With her unmatchable pace, she remained two body lengths ahead of her closest challenger and hit the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 27.98 seconds.
The champion was followed by Yana Berezhna of Ukraine, who was 2.01 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and occupied silver medal of the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 29.99 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Nadia Baez, who stayed nearly five seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and occupied bronze medal of the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 31.21 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was secured by Daniela Schulte of Germany, who remained almost five seconds behind the third position holder and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 36.16 seconds.
Subsequently, Schulte was chased by Amber Thomas of Canada, who stayed just 0.05 seconds slower from her and secured fifth best place of the race by reporting a time of 1 minute and 36.21 seconds.
Thomas was chased by Stephanie Douard of France, who remained 0.29 seconds behind clocked an effort of 1 minute and 36.50 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Rina Akiyama of Japan, who also stayed 0.29 seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 36.79 seconds.
The Japanese player was followed by Letticia Martinez of USA, who remained nearly five seconds apart and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 41.10 seconds.
In addition, Reichard was pleased with her accomplishment and raked medal after the event.
