Women’s Singles trophy of I Mercosul International Series belonged to Maja Tvrdy of Slovenia as she remained invincible in the final round on Sunday, June 2, 2013.
She locked horns with a Brazilian campaigner Lohaynny Vicente and their encounter prolonged to 41 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-11 and 21-13.
This straight-set match was played at the local badminton complex of Iguazu, Brazil where a huge crowd gathered to support the native shuttler. However, it was sheer disappointment for local badminton lovers as Lohaynny Vicente failed to live up to the expectations.
The first set of match started with Maja unleashing a flurry of power packed strokes and gaining a significant advantage on the points table. She did not break this rhythm and kept on moving forward at a steady pace.
This intensive attack confounded the native shuttler as remained grounded in most part of the opening game. Things went out of control when Lohaynny blundered in few consecutive rallies and allowed the opposing shuttler to pile up a mountainous figure before
interval.
After the one-minute break, both contenders challenged each other in some consecutive rallies but then the Slovenian player showed her class and established n unassailable lead.
Maja Tvrdy, who was top seeded player in this tournament, played impeccable badminton and strengthened her grip in third quarter of the set. She did not give her rival even a single counterattack opportunity and swept the table with a favourable result of
21-11.
The second set of match was a dead contest as the Brazilian shuttler proved a sitting duck. Lohaynny failed to come out of her rival’s influence and remained busy just in returning her well placed strokes.
Few back-to-back mistakes doubled the trouble for her just before the half time and she failed to end this bad patch in latter part of the game.
Meanwhile, Maja Tvrdy showed consistency in her performance and enjoyed an upper hand all the way to game point situation. She registered a concluding figure of 21-13 and earned the right to be on the top spot of victory stand in I Mercosul International
Series.
