Major Consequences of the entire 2011-2012 season lockout: NBA Featured Report (Part-2)
Some of the major consequences of an entire 2011-2012 season lockout will be discussed.
Popularity of the League will be greatly affected
The National Basketball Association had a spectacular last season which showcased a number of exciting turnarounds and some breathtaking moments. Various NBA superstars shifted their talents to another team which created hype with
the start of the 2010-2011 season. Miami Heat’s LeBron James received most of the attention. The self proclaimed King left Cleveland Cavaliers after seven dominating years.
During the regular season, Chicago Bulls emerged as the dark horse in the Eastern Conference and finished with the top seed followed by 62 victories. The play-offs turned out to be a complete nightmare for two top teams of NBA
San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers which startled the world of NBA. Spurs were eliminated by the eighth seeded Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the post-season while Los Angeles Lakers were swept out by the eventual champions Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks finally clinched their first ever NBA title after making consecutive play-off trips since more than a decade. The popularity of the league received a major boost up followed by an outstanding season which triggered
some dramatic turnarounds.
If the NBA lockout wipes out the 2011-2012 season, the reputation of NBA will be greatly affected which is one of the major consequences of the work stoppage. The league had one of the best seasons in the history and an entire
season stamp out will lessen the huge popularity that was received in the last season.
This concern emerges from the fact that the last time that league faced a similar situation in 1998, it took the league many years to attract the crowds back to the court.
Excitement of the 2012 NBA Finals will turn into disappointment
The 2011 NBA Finals matchup featured a lop-sided contest between a team which was highly favoured for the championship title versus the team which received less consideration to win it all.
Miami Heat became favourites from the start of the season when the franchise managed to gather three top players LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh at one place. The invincible strength of the trio on the roster marshalled
Miami into the play-offs with the second seed and the team stamped their might on every opposition in the play-offs to clinch the NBA Finals berth.
On the other hand, everyone was anticipating an early exit for the veteran power Dallas Mavericks in the preliminary rounds of the pay-offs, reflecting their past history. However the Mavericks stood confident against all the odds
and raced away into the NBA Finals, exterminating all the predictions in the western Conference. In the process, Dallas Mavericks, defeated Portland Trailblazers in the first round, swept two-time defending champions Los Angeles Lakers in the semi-finals and
crushed the young talent Oklahoma City Thunder in the Conference Finals.
The Mavericks continued to prove their critics wrong in the NBA Finals as well and thrashed the spirited Miami Heat 4-2 in the series to land their first ever Championship title. The matchup between Miami and Mavericks raised substantial
Television ratings and the outcome of the series grew more excitement for the 2012 NBA finals as the fans wanted to see more improving teams get on the big platform.
While some top teams like San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are preparing themselves to revert in the next season, many young teams like Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder are determined to move another
step forward to encounter in the NBA Finals.
The excitement of the situation has already compelled many analysts and fans to predict their teams for the 2012 NBA Finals. However, if the work stoppage disrupts the entire 2011-2012 season, than there will be no 2012 NBA Final
which will lock away all the exhilaration and pleasure. On top of that the young and promising teams in both the Conferences will have to wait for a longer period for their bright future.
