Major Consequences of the entire 2011-2012 season lockout: NBA Featured Report (Part-3)
NBA record chase will be hampered

One of the biggest excitements next season (if that happens)for the fans and the teams is to see their superstars set a record or embark on the path of setting a milestone. The two most prominent players who are standing by to
set a landmark are Orlando Magic’s big man Dwight Howard and Oklahoma City Thunder’s scoring machine Kevin Durant.
The defensive giant Howard is geared up to win his fourth straight Best Defensive Player of the Year award while the young superstar Durant is determined to nab the scoring crown for the third successive time. However, an entire
season wipe-out means that both the players won’t be able to achieve the honours next year.
On top of that, Los Angeles Lakers legendary player Kobe Bryant, who stands at the eighth spot in the all-time scoring list with 27,868 career points, might not be able to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s historic mark of 38,387 points
if he misses a complete season.
What will be the most interesting to see is whether LeBron James managed to take back his Most Valuable Player title back from Derricks Rose or not. There is also a possibility that a new entity enters the scenario. May be Blake
Griffin. However, all of it will remain a fantasy till the NBA owners and the players union come to an agreement.
Early retirement
If the National Basketball Association Lockout stays for a longer period resulting in a complete season wipe out, it may force some aged players to plan an early retirement.
There are a number of players in the league who are expected to call it quits after the 2011-2012 season. However, in case no games take places in the next season as a result of the work stoppage, those players might have already
played their last game and take divorce from the world of NBA.
Two best power forwards of the league Kevin Garnett of Boston Celtics and Tim Duncan of San Antonio Spurs are also anticipated to join the go list after the next season. Even though Kevin and Tim are not the oldest players in the
league however a considerable downfall was seen in their performances during the last season which is a one big reason to consider their retirement.
Talking about the oldest active players in NBA, Chicago Bulls Kurt Thomas is on top of the list who will turn 39 in October. Thomas has already indicated that he will play one more season before planning a retirement. In case of
the 2011-2012 season failure, Thomas might be the first person to pack his bag and leave for good.
Many other players including Grant Hill, Juwan Howard, Derek Fisher and Theo Ratliff may plan an early retirement of the next season go in a Lockout.
