Major League Baseball: Master Lee tames the New York Yankees game 3 (Part 5 Final)
The Texas Rangers knew what an effect Cliff Lee would have on them and their opponents in the 3rd game of the American League Championship. The side was visiting the Yankees Stadium for the bout and
with a hard lined 49,480 fans in the stands, supporting their home ball club; there was no telling how manager Ron Washington would lead his West champions to glory. That was until Master Lee was confirmed to start for the team in the bout.
The simple fact that Lee struck out 21 hitters in the last two playoff encounters presented the Texans with a chance to impose their will in the Yankees stadium, presenting the power house pitcher on the mound to put the
hosts off their mark. The New York ball club, on the other hand, was looking to put someone up with experience on the mound as a counter reaction to Cliff’s inclusion. However, the idea lacked realistic results by the time the first inning went by in the fixture.
Josh Hamilton, who has been formidable for the Rangers, pulled a stunning smash across the park to punish Andy Pettitte who has been in the New York Yankees roster for a good number of years. The fact that the veteran conceded
two runs in the opening innings meant the contest was always going to sway Texas’ way. As the game progressed, no further runs were converted in and this made the entire competition seem volatile as both ball clubs had the energy to do more on the strike zone.
The chances fell considerably low when the fixture entered the 9th innings.
Unfortunately, for the Yanks, the Rangers were not going to maintain their lead as Josh Hamilton made it 3 – 0 for the team, courtesy Nelson Cruz, who was on the mark for the hitting faction. With the side up by 3 runs, there
was still a full base situation developing for the Yanks. The game was entering a curving path and it was important for the hosts to quiet down the visitors to leave a chance of winning, open in their last inning of batting.
Julio Borbon was on the third base, followed by Nelson Cruz who was on second. David Murphy had just been walked to the first and it was Bengie Molina who came out to face David Robertson. The veteran wasted no time and put
the reliever’s ball away for a single to the left. The hit was instrumental in getting Borbon to score and the player increased the tally to 4 – 0. With the bases still full, Robertson was treated to another surprise as Mitch Moreland came in and drove two
RBIs (Runs Batted In) with a single to the right. Both Cruz and Murphy were the ones to score and raise the tally to 6 – 0.
The game was still in play and the Rangers were hardly done as Molina was waiting on third base Moreland was stationed on the first. Elvis Andrus was the next man in and he gave the Yanks a heart ache as he doubled to the
deep right and led Molina to a run. Shaun Mitre came on for Robertson and with the team reeling 7 – 0, the fans abandoned the match.
Michael Young was facing Mitre and a wild pitch by the ball thrower ended the bout as Moreland ran home for the 8th run in the match, ending the game on a 2 – 1 series lead for the Rangers. Cliff Lee
was impressive and in his 8 innings he allowed no runs off 2 hits. The veteran was also successful in striking out 13 hitters and that figure got him to the top 4th position in strikeouts during a game in the championship. Master Lee
was the reason why Texas went far ahead in scoring. With the Championship going into game 4, it must be said the competition is getting fiercer, day by day.
