Major League Baseball Power Rankings: Week 14 – Part 5
23. The San Diego Padres improved two places to finish 23rd this week. They have a win-loss record of 40-51 this season and just above the last-placed Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Western Division.
The Padres have recorded four wins and as many losses in their previous ten games but the worrying part for them is that they are on a four-game losing streak and if this continues, they might take the last position in the NL West.
24. The Minnesota Twins have also improved two spots to take the 24th rank this week. Their improvement can be attributed to their consecutive series wins over the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers but a lot more needs to be done to climb
the standings in the American League Central Division.
With a 7-3 record over the last ten games, they certainly have a chance to prove their mettle in the Majors.
25. Los Angeles Dodgers have been marred with all sorts of controversies off the field. The controversies have certainly taken a toll on their performance on the field which is evident from their 25th position in the power rankings.
The only joy for them this week was Clayton Kershaw’s selection for the All-Star Game. He has been by far their top pitcher and others need to join in for the Dodgers to show improved results.
26. At Number 26 this week are the Florida Marlins who have climbed in from the 28th rank. They have shown significant improvement over the last ten games with a 7-3 record and now riding a four-game win streak.
With similar performances in the future, they can surely improve on their last position in the NL Eastern Division as well as the power rankings.
27. The Baltimore Orioles are ranked amongst the worst performers this week. They have slipped five places from 22nd to finish 27th this week.
In the AL Eastern Division, they are well placed on the last position with 36-51 season record and just a sole win in their previous ten outings. The Orioles are on a six-game losing streak and are in dire need of a miracle!
28. The Chicago Cubs also experienced a dip in their performance this week with a demotion to the 28th spot from the 27th.
Aramis Ramirez had an excellent week for the Cubs but inept performance by the pitchers did not help the Cubs to convert the good work into wins. This can also be judged from the fact that the Cubs have scored 368 runs against the 447 they have given away.
The Cubs have thus lost six of their previous ten encounters.
29. The Kansas City Royals held to their 29th position in the power rankings. Their win-loss record is shallow at 37-53 and thus their last position in the AL Central Division.
The Royals have managed just four wins in the last ten games and lack of proficiency at the mound can be cited as a major reason for this lacklustre performance.
30. The last position is rightfully maintained by the Houston Astros who have had a miserable season thus far. They are the only team to fail at home fixtures and their home record of 14-33 is a worthy testimony. The Astros have leaked 100 more runs than
they have scored and with the competition getting intense, there is little chance of a renaissance.
