Major League Baseball Power Rankings - Week 4 – Part 1
The Philadelphia Phillies have moved up two spots to get the most coveted Number one position with a 16-8 record. Even though it seems that Chase Utley’s absence would be felt greatly, Placido Polanco has made it much more bearable than expected and is playing
for every dollar that he gets paid. Polanco is currently hitting .372 with 15 RBIs.
Next are the Florida Marlins who have moved up a mind boggling 12 spots to secure the second position in the rankings. They have a 15-8 record that helped them get to this position. Mike Stanton is finally getting comfortable and after a home-run drought
the lasted a good 13 games he belted out two in his past five games. The slugging out-fielder and his team are definitely on fire.
New York Yankees have a 13-8 record that lands them the third spot on this week’s ranking. They are leading the American League East and credit should be given to their spectacular offence and reliable bull-pen. They have had 5.7 runs per game on an average
and have managed five wins along with 16 holds and eight saves. They moved up by three to reach this spot.
Colorado Rockies went down by three spots to land on Number four with a 16-7 record. Their bull-pen this season is definitely worth mentioning as it leads the National League in the inherited runners scored percentage which is 15 percent. They have 22 holds
and the second best save percentage in the league of 83 percent.
Texas Rangers come at Number five with a record of 16-7. They have dropped by one spot. Josh Hamilton has been home-run less along with Michael Young although Hamilton has one of the best excuses in the book, a broken arm. Even though he may not be belting
out homers Young has been supporting his team with one of the best offence in the league.
Cleveland Indians have gone down by four spots to land at Number six. Their hot start had everyone talking but inevitably, they have started slowing down. The American League leading Tribe and Travis need to find their spark once again unless they plan to
keep on going downhill.
The Los Angeles Angels have gone down two spots to reach Number seven. They have a 14-11 record and their slip may be because of the power struggle that the team’s management has been facing as Bud Selig decided to take over the team. Nonetheless, Jared
Weaver was successful in becoming the first pitcher in all of Major League Baseball history to accumulate six wins by April 25th.
The Detroit Tigers are at Number eight with a 12-12 ranking. The Tigers haven’t managed to defeat any big named teams after the Rangers but they are still winning, which is what they are supposed to do. They moved up by a good 11 spots.
St. Louis Cardinals increased their ranking by two spots as their record stands at 13-11. This a far cry from their shameful 2-6 starts that had everyone talking. They are finally back in the game as they lead the National League Central.
Cincinnati Reds slip down by one spot. The National League is boasting of some of the best sluggers in the game and the Reds definitely contribute to that.
