Major League Baseball Power Rankings: Week 5 - Part 1
The Philadelphia Phillies were on the top of almost every Power Ranking last week and now as this week wraps up they are still on the same position given their three consecutive wins out of the four that they played.
The Philadelphia Phillies have an 18-9 record and make the Number one position their home just like last week. Roy Halladay’s performance is more than just praise worthy. Over the duration of more than 46 innings, he has allowed only one home-run. He kicked
of his season with a staggering 18 strikes and a complete game along with a 2-1 win over the New York Mets. He’s just one of the Phillies Four Aces. It looks like the Phillies are planning to stay on the top for a while.
The New York Yankees also managed to stay where they were since last week at the second position. They have a 16-9 record, as they pulled up their socks from last week and although the offence gave up quite a few opportunities that could’ve been favorable
for the Yankees, their rotation has had a quality start. A. J. Burnett had the best start since the season started, Ivan Nova impressed the coaches and Bartolo Colon improved his ERA to 2.77.
The Cleveland Indians who were at the sixth position last week managed to climb up their way to reach the third position. The fact that they just complete their fifth series sweep of the season may have had a considerable hand in the improved ranking. This
is a far cry from their performance just last year where they barely managed four series sweeps throughout the entire season. The Indians set a record for highest victories in April 18, even with two of their starters in the Disabled List. Currently they have
a 19-8 record.
The Colorado Rockies slip down a spot to reach the fourth position with a 17-9 record. Even though Ubaldo Jimenez and Carlos Gonzalez didn’t have a very impressive start they have managed to get their act together and the Rockies now hold their largest National
League West lead since 1995. They have won 17 games till now and things seem to be looking good for them.
The Texas Rangers with a 16-12 record slip to the fifth position, going down by one rank since last week. Matt Harrison seems to be on a roller-coaster ride. He was the man who allowed only six runs in the duration of 28 plus innings through his first four
starts of the season. Now he’s the man who has let 11 earned runs pass him by in the very short duration of four plus innings in his two starts since then.
