Major League Baseball Power Rankings: Week 5 - Part 3
This week’s rankings haven’t shown any drastic changes compared to last weeks. Here are the teams who made it from the 14th – 21st position.
The Toronto Blue Jays climb a good six spots to land the 14th position with a 13-15 record. The two opposite field home-runs belted out by Adam Lind is definitely a something that the Blue Jays are going to celebrate.
The Los Angeles Dodgers reach to 15th position with a 14-15 record. Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp seem to be giving a new dimension to the term identical twins. They both have reached the base 56 times through a 125 appearances.
The Kansas City Royals slip down six spots to reach the 16th position from last week’s 10th position. Their record stands at 15-13. The Royals’ pitchers said goodbye to April with a 5.14 ERA and their bull-pen managed a 3.51 ERA.
The Boston Red Sox slipped to the 17th position from the 13th spot they were at last week. They have a 12-15 record. The Red Sox had a very shaky start this season and last week they managed to shake themselves out of that. This week
again, their offence went as cold as the team is scoring an average of 2.5 runs. Given their slump, they should be lucky that they managed to somehow get two victories under their belt. Time will tell whether they’ll be able to take advantage of the Los Angeles
Angels again this week or not.
The Oakland Athletics stay at the same position they were at last week, Number 18. Their record stands equal at 14-14. Conor Jackson has proved himself to be the best batter on the team as he hits at .298/.375/.439 through 63 plate appearances. David DeJesus
hasn’t been too spectacular and this could mean that the Athletics start reaching out for Jackson more from now onwards.
The Baltimore Orioles who were at the 24th position last week are now at the 19th position with a 13-13 record. The left handed Rookie Zach Britton hasn’t failed to impress with a 2.63 ERA within six starts. In six outings he has barely
allowed one run in four of his six starts.
The Detroit Tigers slip six spots from their 14th position to reach the 20th spot. They have a 12-16 record. Joaquin Benoit let six runs pass him by within two third of an innings this week. They have had consecutive sweeps, first to
the Seattle Mariners and then the Cleveland Indians.
The Washington Nationals remain where they were at the 21st position with a 13-14 record. The fact the Jason Marquis successfully out pitched Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants is no easy feat and that contributed significantly to their
victory. He has already had his third victory of the season and it has only been a month so far. Marquis could barely manage two through all of last year.
