Major League Baseball Power Rankings: Week 5 - Part 4
With another week all wrapped up in the world of baseball, the Power Rankings have caused quite an interest in the fans. Here are the teams who come between the 22nd – 30th positions.
The Chicago Cubs slip down to Number 22 from Number 19 with a 12-15 record at hand. The teams set a new April record with Alfonso Soriano’s 10 home-runs. Their position would defiantly increase if someone else on the team was also belting out home-runs like
him.
The Seattle Mariners rise up from Number 29 to the 23 position in the rankings. Ichiro Suzuki was the man behind their five game winnings streak. His pitching was flawless and his command over the offence and defence helped matters as well. Justin Smoak
and Miguel Olivo partnered with Suzuki well. This comes as a big change from last week, where they were almost at the bottom of the rankings. This week they are barely three and a half games behind the American League leading Texas Rangers and Los Angeles
Angels.
The Chicago White Sox come in at Number 24 slipping two spots from last week’s 22. Their record stands at 10-19 and the fact that they lost 15 out of their last 18 games is not comforting at all. If they have any plans of turning their fate around then some
contribution from Adam Dunn and Alex Rios will be required.
The New York Mets stepped up by three spots as they reached the 25th position with a 12-16 record. Even though things may seem grim, history is an indication that the Mets will improve in the days ahead. The last three times when the Mets had
a losing record through the month of April, they changed the game by having a winning record in the month of May. Hopefully the pattern repeats itself this time around as well.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are at Number 26 with a 12-15 record. Kelly Johnson and his .227 BABIP definitely need to fix itself soon.
The Pittsburgh Pirates come at Number 27, after dropping two positions to reach that spot. They have a 13-15 record. Brandon Wood has been monumentally disappointing as he seems to be competing for the top position of being the worst hitter in baseball’s
history with 23 OPS.
At Number 28 are the Minnesota Twins with a 9-18 record. They were at number 23 last week and dropped six in a row. They seem to be in a state of chaos as they cross the average margin of seven runs per game.
The 29th spot is taken up by the San Diego Padres who have a 11-17 record. They wrapped up the month of April with a total of 72 runs scored which marks their lowest number of scores accumulated throughout a month since the 64 runs they gathered
in the July of 1991.
The Houston Astros remain where they were at Number 30. The bad news is that they only managed one series win in all of April.
