Major League Baseball Power Rankings: Week 6 - Part 2
This week in Major League Baseball’s Power Rankings, the Philadelphia Phillies are still on top for the third week straight. Looks like the Phil’s are getting comfortable being on top. The Cleveland Indians followed by the New York Yankees come at the second
and third spot respectively. The fourth position goes to the Tampa Bay Rays who are also tied for being the American League East leaders.
There haven’t been many extreme changes in the positions of the teams, just some minor shifting and scuffling.
The Colorado Rockies slip down a spot to land at the fifth position in the rankings with an 18-14 record. The team was booming in April, but they began to slide downwards in May. They lost four times, one after the other and only six starts worth mentioning
have been made by the team while on the road. Even with the six above average starts, they could only manage to win one of those games. They were swept away by the San Francisco Giants this week and the Rockies failing bull-pen are to blame.
The St. Louis Cardinals climb up by two spots to reach the sixth position. They have a 20-15 record and Jaime Garcia almost reached a no hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers. As they followed Kyle McClellan’s lead, they took the rubber game of the series.
The Los Angeles Angels are at the seventh position which is an improvement from their 9th position last week. Their record stands at 20-15. At the age of 23, Hank Conger is hitting at .286/.344/.500 and Jeff Mathis at 28 is hitting at .200/.221/.308.
Till now they have started in the same number of games and no one seems to be willing to draw a line for the pair. In this case it seems like Mike Scioscia’s loyalty to his guys from the team might end up being too costly.
The Florida Marlins come at eighth position, slipping two spots from the sixth position they were at last week. They have a 20-13 record. Thankfully for the Marlins, they may be higher in the ranking by next week due to Gaby Sanchez’s sudden hitting spree.
He is currently batting at .328/.414/.512. This comes as a definite relief for the Marlins given that their best hitters have been slumping in the past two weeks.
The Atlanta Braves moved up from the 13th position to reach the 9th one with a 20-16 record. Derek Lowe is suffering at the moment with his ERA of 3.22 being the worst in all of Braves rotation members. This is a far cry from Jair Jurrjens
ERA of 1.50 which is the leading the team as well as the league, impressively.
