Major League Baseball Power Rankings: Week 6 - Part 4
Each week, Major League Baseball fans wait for Power Rankings to be released so that they could see where there favourite teams are standing. At a glance anyone can identify who is slumping and who is climbing their way up to the top. The Philadelphia Phillies
have been sitting at the Number one position for the third week straight. Consistent, if not spectacular performances in the field have helped them stay put at the top position.
The reigning World Series Champions, the San Francisco Giants come in at Number 14, slipping down two spots from last week’s position of Number 12. Mike Fontenot’s arrival has led to the Giants winning four of their last five games played. This is a good
sign for the team since they were seen slumping at times. Fontenot is the Number three hitter and has a .912 OPS throughout Saturday. Whether it’s good luck due to the prayers of all the Giants fans or science that is helping them win games, it seems to working
just fine for the team.
The Boston Red Sox with a 16-18 record stand at Number 15 which is a three position improvement since last week when they were at Number 17. Their start was one of the worst to be seen in recent times but slowly they have been making their way up, although
they have a long and daunting journey ahead before they reach the top. Their offence has been noticeably improving and they finished sixth this week in the American League. Carl Crawford should be given credit for turning around the fortunes of the beloved
Red Sox as he wrapped up last week by hitting at .370.
The Detroit Tigers have climbed four spots to reach the 16th position with a 17-18 record. The Tigers have a tendency of being excellent at times and then worse than anyone expected all of a sudden, so with this particular team you never know.
Just last week they took three of four from the New York Yankees as Justin Verlander went on to ‘no-hit’ the Blue Jays.
The Washington Nationals are slowly climbing their way up to the top as they currently settle at the 18th position. They have a 16-18 record which may be due to the fact that Tom Gorzelanny is 2-1 in his last five starts along with an ERA of 1.95.
He has pitched a bit over 32 innings in his last five starts and allowed only 17 hits to pass him by.
The Chicago Cubs are at the 19th position which is an improvement from last week’s 22nd position with a 15-18 record. The Cubs are currently hitting .214 and their runners have managed to perch on all scoring positions since the season
started. They are ranked at Number 27 in baseball.
