Major League Baseball Power Rankings: Week 6 - Part 5
There haven’t been any dramatic changes in this week’s Power Rankings with the Philadelphia Phillies still on the top position for the third consecutive week and the Cleveland Indians trailing close behind followed by the New York Yankees.
The Pittsburgh Pirates climb up seven spots to reach this week’s 20th position with a 17-17 record. They had a horrible four starts but James McDonald seems to be intent on changing that for the Pirates. He has an ERA of 1.00 in his last three
starts and in the duration of 18 innings, he has sacrificed seven walks while striking-out 16. McDonald has shown promising potential to be Pittsburgh’s best starting pitcher for this season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers slip down from last week’s Number 15 to land at the 21st position. They currently have a 16-19 record. Their offence needs quite a makeover as they have had merely 12 runs in their last 32 games which accounts to a meager
2.7 runs per game.
The Seattle Mariners move up a spot since last week with their Number 22 spot and 16-19 record. Even though Justin Smoak has been on fire given he has belted out five home-runs since the season began, he has only one long ball in a duration of his last 51
at bats.
The Arizona Diamondbacks increase their ranking by three spots as they reach the 23rd position with a 15-18 record. No one knows what to make of Chris Young as he helps out quite a lot with his eight home runs since the season began, but at the
same time his .257 OBP in the line-up, especially the leadoff spot is not beneficial for the team at all. His walk rate this season hasn’t even reached what his career average is and he is constantly swinging pitches outside the zone or missing pitches inside
the zone.
The New York Mets also increase their ranking by one position as they are at the 24th position with their 15-19 record. Jayson Bay is barely hitting .241 along with four RBI’s and a .669 OPS.
The Milwaukee Brewers slip down drastically from their 11th spot where they were last week to reach the 24th position. They have a 14-20 record as the complete one of their absolute worst road trips in quite a while. They barely managed
to win a mere two games out of 10 and only 17 runs have been scored in those 10 games.
At Number 26 are the Baltimore Orioles who have also slipped by one too many positions from last week’s 19th position with a 14-19 record. Nick Markakis is proving to be a bit troublesome as he hits .234/.291/.328. If the Orioles want him to perform
then they better start paying his the $44-million that the team owes the athlete.
