Major League Baseball Power Rankings: Week 8 - Part 2
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Cleveland Indians exchanged positions as the Indians got the Number one position and the Phillies settled for the second spot. The Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays and the St Louis Cardinals took the third, fourth and fifth
spot respectively. Following them were the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants in the sixth and seventh position.
The Florida Marlins slipped a few spots from last week’s position to land at this week’s eighth spot with a 26-19 record. Josh Johnson made his way to the Disabled List and is expected to stay there till June. This can prove to be costly for the Marlins
as Johnson is the team’s best pitcher. He was the only one who could challenge Roy Halladay of the Phillies and give him a run for his money in the pitching department when the Marlins went up against Philadelphia.
The Colorado Rockies are at the ninth position with a 23-22 record. They could improve their position and record if the offence starts backing up the team’s pitching. Just last week two of their starters threw complete games and still lost. The situation
is almost similar to that of the Philadelphia Phillies whose offence can’t seem to backup their ace pitchers.
The Atlanta Braves climbed two spots from last week’s twelfth position to settle on the tenth one with a 26-23 record. Dan Uggla is not contributing to the team on any end as his averages for the month of May worsen. His batting average is at a measly .173
and he has a .560 OPS in 81 at bats.
The Toronto Blue Jays climbed five spots to reach the 12th position this week with an equal record of win and losses that is 23. Rookie Kyle Drabek has had the opportunity to start ten times this season and he walked 37 in the duration while striking
out 38.
The Texas Rangers remain where they were last week, the 13th spot with a 24-23 record. Even though they haven’t had any impressive wins, they are at the top of the American League West. Things may be improving for the team as their ace, Josh Hamilton
returns this week from his stay at the Disabled List after he performed a dangerous head first slide into a base. Nelson Cruz will also be joining the line-up.
The Detroit Tigers slide down to the 14th spot from last week’s ninth one with the same record as that of the Blue Jays which is 23. They seem to be plagued with the same offence problem that most of the teams are facing this season. They have
barely managed to score 10 runs in their last six games almost like the Phillies but at least the Phillies have Chase Utley returning to improve the offence. The Tigers do not have anyone.
