Major League Baseball Special: What to expect from Houston Astros in 2012...?
The 2012 Major League Baseball season is about to start in two weeks’ time and already the fans of Houston Astros are making some roar of their positive and consistent results from next season onwards.
The arrival of Astros’ new owner Jim Crane has also started his efforts to provide confidence to the entire management who yet to make a working bond with him. Crane, who is known to give inspiration to youngsters, has earlier also said, “We are trying to establish a theme that is focused on youth, backing the coach up and being responsible for everything they do. We want to set a consistent tone, so the guys can really have an opportunity to play and create a career here.”
He added, “I think everybody in the room does feel that there is a lot of opportunity. I think the message was consistent between Jeff [Luhnow] and Brad [Mills] and myself. We're all on the same page. You've got a lot of guys staring a hole in you. The players have a job to do.”
The fans one the other hand, are also expecting some high-fly results from the team. Despite knowing the fact of dire pitching rotation, the Houston fans just want from their team to give them competitive games to watch. According to a recent survey by a renowned statistical company, the Astros fans are one of the most loyalists in US and their turn-out ratio on the match day is also huge which every year increases with large numbers as well.
However, looking deeply and evaluating every aspect of the team, one can pretty much extract the very idea of drought in their pitching line-up. Excluding experience starting pitcher Carlos Lee, no one else is capable enough of leading the team into next level. Having only one talented and experienced campaigner, no team can survive longer in the competition. The Astros also knew this fact when they ended last year’s disappointing season losing too many games from average opponents. Nevertheless not only they did not act according to the situation, but they also neglected to hire any big player’s services who could have given them some kind of relief head of next big event.
The entire offseason went unproductive with no new players coming-in to give the right kind of stability potentially for future seasons. Some believe that the slight transition on new owner’s arrival also made things more complex giving no clear intention to the management on how the next season will treat their less competitive pitching rotation.
The Astros bullpen, where only Brandon Lyon seems slight in-tact with the coaches and manager, is also having some troubles with his right shoulder leaving many confuse over his availability in the entire season. The current entire active roster which is busy in this year’s Spring Training, also knows how difficult this season is going to be for them. From Wilton Lopez to Enerio Del Rosario to Sergio Escalona, all these three also know regarding the extra responsibility they have to take. The starters Brett Myers, Wandy Rodriguez and Bud Norris also working hard in Spring Training, but still waiting for the team to announce their final positions and in which order they will be pitching.
