Major League Baseball Special: What to expect from Seattle Mariners in 2012...?
The Seattle Mariners are currently enjoying its foreign tour in Tokyo, Japan, but the expectations from the fans on the other hand, are also rising as they want their team to come up with best skills in the coming season. The Mariners’ fans know as their team has covered lots of areas regarding performance and bringing consistency into the team while now is the right time to test all those skills that they have learnt in this year’s Spring Training.
The Mariners this season will be filled with extra energy as they understand the last year’s poor results. Currently the Mariners are on their annual offseason trip to Japan where they scheduled to play against the Major League team Oakland Athletics on Thursday. Despite playing in Japan, the Mariners feel quite comfortable at the moment. The entire team will be returning in few days and start the 2012 Major League campaign at start of the next month.
All the players have just completed a well crafted Spring Training and hoping a good beginning in next season. Newly arrived catcher Jesus Montero is making some news as he is lately considered a play maker. On the other hand, the Mariners’ top management is happy the way things are going for them. Recently, the Mariners manager Eric Wedge told the media about his team’s preparations and how well they are prepared for the next big event.
Wedge said, “It's a completely different atmosphere, a very different couple of days. But regardless, we didn't play very good baseball. I feel like it's really important for us to have a buffer before opening day, To be able to come here and work out and just work out some of the kinks, have the discussions we need to have and get re-focused.”
He added, “I couldn't keep my tempo, I checked the video recorder after the game and it looked my elbow was coming down mechanics-wise. Especially when I'm facing Japanese hitters, it's easier for them to hit when I pitch like that.''
According to Wedge, he started off with the slight poor baseball they have been playing lately, but at the same time they need to prepare for the big event. On Opening Day, Wedge wants his team to open up with more defensively viable. This is quite sure that the Mariners play an offensive game and always put behind the very idea and importance of defensive ball play.
Their batting line-up upfront will try its best to play an active role while the Mariners pitchers will carry forward the defensive game to attain good results in the coming event. The projected line-up for 2012 includes Chone Figgins along with Dustin Ackley, Ichiro Suzuki, Justin Smoak, Jesus Mentero, Mike Carp, Miguel Olive, Michael Saunders and Brendan Ryan. On the other hand, the Mariners rotation includes Felix Hernandez along with Jason Vargas, Blake Beavan, Hector Noesi and Kevin Millwood. The Mariners relief pitchers consist of Brandon League along with Tom Wilhelmsen, Shawn Kelley, George Sherrill, Cesar Jimenez, Hisashi Iwakuma, Shawn Camp and Danny Hultzen.
