Major League Baseball: Tigers go 5 wins up after breaking the Royals 9 – 1
One thing that amazes any MLB (Major League Baseball) spectator is the ability of any team to rebound from a losing streak and excel like big champions. The Detroit Tigers are such a team. When they lost their series against the New York Yankees in a clean sweep, most suspected a turbulent time ahead for the ball club, as the Central Division club made their way for the Cleveland Indians visit to their home stadium. Five games on and now they’re heading a 5 match winning streak. However, last night’s victory was owed to Rick Porcello. The Pitching novice master went out to allow just 2 hits over seven shutout innings. Kansas City Royals were not able to replicate their opponents’ performance and lost their bid for a Series save.
The Tigers are high on morale with their recent track record in Comerica. The ball club has a 5 games winning streak now, but that too has come off victories against weak Central Division teams. The Indians are sitting on the last seat of the table and right above them are the Royals. Detroit, however, are finally acting like serious contenders for the Central trophy. Though last two months were unpleasant for the team, manager Jim Leyland will be glad to see the roster perform like true ambitious superstars. For the fixture, pitcher, Porcello made his way to the mound.
For a ball thrower who averages 4.68 on earning runs, the player came in with a terrible 5.76 ERA (earning Run Average) of the season. The young, 21 year old had a ratio tally of 5 wins and 11 losses. However, tonight proved to be the young thrower’s night as he pitched for 7 innings, struck out 4 and allowed 1 walk and 2 hits.
The Royals on the other hand, were unable to strike back as they lost the series in the second game. The team had won the last two series but their visit to Comerica stadium has not been beneficial for them. They lost the last game in humiliating fashion and this fixture followed in similar trend. The only run that came off the bat was in the 9th inning. With weak pitching following an average batting line up, fans were not in any false realization to deal with the loss. Most critics knew and no surprise came as the Kansas City club crashed early again.
The Royals brought on Kyle Davies for pitching and management had good faith in the ball thrower, given his last winning game. Though the game against the Indians on the 19th of this month showed a no result for the pitcher, he was a choice, management chose to field for the fixture. Unfortunately, there wouldn’t be a win as the player was hit 12 times in his 4.2 innings of play. He allowed 7 runs and 3 walks in the game, while striking out 5 hitters.
The Kansas started in the top 1st, but it was the Tigers who scored first. Austin Jackson got the first run in the bottom 1st when Miguel Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly to the right. The runs followed in during the bottom 4th as well. This time Brandon Inge got on the score board off Brennan Boesch’s ground rule double to the right. Boesch then went on to make it 3 when he ran past the last base off Alex Avila’s double to the right.
Detroit kept on pouncing on the Royals as the runs kept on piling up in the bottom 5th. Ryan Raburn got the 4th for the team when he smashed a 390 homer to the left. Johnny Peralta then came in for his first run, as he ran past the last base, off Jackson’s double to the deep right. Jackson and Boesch then got on the scoring list when Wily Rhymes doubled to the right.
With 7 runs on the board, Detroit kept on adding numbers to the tally. Cabrera added the 8th of the team in the bottom 6th as Inge hit a sacrifice fly to the centre. Raburn then scored the last for the side after Boesch grounded his shot into the fielder’s choice to second. The club was 9 – 0 up and the only response from the Royals came in the top 9th when Kila Ka’aihue homered to the right stands. This ended the game on 9 Tigers – 1 Royals.
