Major League Baseball Trade Analysis – Part 2
Mike Adams career picked momentum after a poor season with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2006. He could play just two games with the Brewers and pitch just 2.1 innings. His ERA for the season ended at 11.57 and he was subsequently transferred to the San Diego
Padres where he resumed playing in 2008 after sitting out the 2007 season.
He recorded a career-best ERA of 0.73 in 2009 and has since registered ERAs of 1.76 and 1.13 in 2010 and 2011 respectively. The Rangers have the 13th best ERA in the Majors currently and Adams’ addition to the pitching staff is likely to improve
it further.
His acquisition has come at a heavy price though. The Rangers have given away two young and refined pitching prospects in Robbie Erlin and Joe Wieland to the Padres and both of them have a drive to thrive at the professional level. It will be interesting
to see if the Rangers and the Padres have made a beneficial deal when the players get to play a complete season next year.
Arizona Diamondbacks are giving a tough fight to the San Francisco Giants in the National League West division with just two games shy of the reigning world champions. The D-backs are comfortably placed second in the division with the third-placed Rockies
at least eight games behind them.
To further strengthen their bull-pen, the Diamondbacks acquired Brad Ziegler from the Oakland Athletics in place of Brandon Allen and Jordan Norberto. Allen has featured in just 11 games for Arizona and would be a good addition for Athletics who look to
build a team for their next campaign.
Another move saw the Diamondbacks acquire veteran Jason Marquis from Washington Nationals in place of Zach Walters. Marquis has not been on top of his form and it might turn out to be a risk too much for the Diamondbacks who are fighting hard to topple the
Giants.
Ziegler too has been average this season and his partnership with Marquis might not be enough for the D-backs to overthrow the Giants who have one of the best pitching outfits in MLB.
The San Francisco Giants on the contrary have traded Thomas Neal to the Cleveland Indians and have landed second baseman and shortstop Orlando Cabrera from them. Cabrera has had a decent career with 981 career-runs at an average 0f .272. He surpassed the
2000 career-hits mark this season and is in line to complete 1000 career-runs this season too. It will be interesting to see how the Giants plan to utilise the 14 years of Cabrera’s experience.
The Giants, in another interesting move, got hold of Carlos Beltran from the New York Mets in addition to $4-million for the lanky hard-pitching prospect Zack Wheeler. Beltran is batting at an average of .281 this season and has already scored 62 runs with
104 hits thus far. 15 of these runs have come as home-runs and the Giants would feel that they have made the right moves to tackle the Diamondbacks.
Beltran has 1865 career-hits and will surely make it to 2000 hits sooner than later. He is just five shy of 300 career home-runs is in a strong position to accomplish the feat this season. In 17 at-bats with the Giants, Beltran has scored just one run and
two hits but is surely going to pace it up when things get settled down.
