Major League Baseball Trade Analysis – Part 3
Milwaukee Brewers suffered a blow when their key player Rickie Weeks was ruled out for the rest of the season. The Brewers required depth in their roster and there could have been no better option than Jerry Hairston Jr. of the Washington Nationals. Milwaukee
traded Erik Komatsu for Hairston and would be upbeat about his addition to their already offence oriented bull-pen.
Although his current season has not been one of his best but he has all the qualities of a top-rated player. A strong squad might prompt Hairston to put in extra effort to raise his game.
Philadelphia Phillies made a strong statement on the trade deadline when they landed Hunter Pence from Houston Astros in place of two top prospects and two others.
Pence makes his way in place of right-handed pitcher Jarred Cosart and first baseman Jonathan Singleton. The Phillies have a strong pitching staff, one of the strongest in MLB, but their batting needed a boost. General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. was quick to
cite this and made his move tactfully keeping in view the possibility of making it to the World Series this season.
Hunter has been outstanding this season. He is just two runs away from 50 runs this season and has already amassed 59 RBIs. Hunter has not remained aloof from the home-runs and has registered 10 of them too. At a batting average of .302, he is surely going
to boost the batting line-up of the Phillies.
Astros, on the contrary, do not have a chance this season due to their poor showing and thus would be in a better position to experiment the prospects this season to prepare a better, sound team for their next campaign. It will be really important for Houston
to shuffle around this season so that it does not have to face a similar situation in the next season. The Astros are currently placed at the 30th position in MLB team standings, 8.5 games behind Chicago Cubs who are placed 29th.
Jeff Keppinger also parted ways with the Houston Astros to join world champions San Francisco Giants in a move which saw Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel move from the Giants to the Astros. Keppinger is a quality player and his talent was being wasted with the
Astros who do not have even the slightest of chances to make it to the playoffs this season.
The Giants are going strong this season and are placed fifth in the Majors currently. Keppinger will add strength in the batting line-up for a team which is technically sound in the pitching department. He has already featured in ten games for the Giants
for ten hits and two runs at an average of .263. This, however, is expected to increase as he plays more games for San Francisco.
The Chicago White Sox have improved drastically after the All-Star break after a pretty ordinary first half. They removed Mark Teahen and Edwin Jackson from their roster to add Jason Frasor and Zach Stewart from the Toronto Blue Jays. The White Sox now have
a stronger bull-pen with Frasor’s addition and this might be the move which would enable them to topple Cleveland in the American League Central division. It will be decisive for the White Sox to deploy Frasor efficiently otherwise it would be a waste of what
could have been precious resources.
